Asmodeus' reputation as the personification of lust continued into later writings, as he was known as the "Prince of Lechery" in the 16th century romance "Friar Rush".

Crimes were invented in the press against religious believers that corresponded with their arrest. Accusations of lechery and VD were used against clergy wherever possible, since the propaganda maintained that the only reason why an intellectual would become a priest would be by moral decline and dishonesty in order to exploit people.
